Windle Village

Categories: Older Windle
This is Windle, 1000 years ago or so.. A longhouse, the typical house for the richer families at the time, and smaller houses for the farmers.
Windle Village

There is a small church built in stone, and a central "square" with a Produce Store hidden underground. I also added some chess tables which are extremely popular. No books in the houses, the church has some bookshelves and paintings - it is branded as a gallery in hood view and therefore also gets visits from the villagers on a regular basis.
All of the village is built on the island in Riverview, I used a clean version. The central building is the Windleton Longhouse.
The Longhouse
I use a road replacement set for this hood, it is much better than asfalt, but when I find a more dirtroad-like one I will change. Find this one here:
Did you notice I got rid of the STREET LAMPS? I found that in debug mode they can be deleted. Unfortunately you can't do the same with the annoying commercial signs, and the water tower. Maybe one day.. (sighs).
There are no other rabbitholes in this hood than the graveyard and the produce store.  Thus, noone wants to go to school or work. They live of fishing and farming, and eventually mining.
With time the hood will grow, the Windletons dream of a castle on the hill.. we will see when they get one, they must get rich first.

I will put the houses up for downloading in a couple of days, need to do some more play testing, and fine tuning.

Wow! That looks wonderful! So you haven't noticed any adverse effects from deleting the school?

It looks really good. I look forward to watching the development of your new hood and stealing ideas for my own medieval hood:). How exactly did you delete those lamp posts? I tried clicking on them in debug mode but couldn't make it work.

About deleting the school: no, not in this hood and not in the first testhood I made. They just don't know about school anymore. Very convenient. I use Awesome Mod, and have the debug options enabled (the ones under Console & Debug Features) and then I shift-click on the lamp. I get both Nuke and Object/Delete options, the latter feels safer as it deletes ONLY the lamp in question. I have not been able to delete any deco stuff, for some reason. I was thinking about making a lamp-free hood save and put it up for download. I am also waiting for some special windows a good friend (who wants to be called Secret Modder) is making. When they are finished, I will rebuild the houses with them and upload a couple of different sizes. They look Old, really Old. :D

It looks.. I have no words.. Simply amazing! Rural Riverview is perfect for this. (Especially with all the bridges.) You are so lucky to have one out of two default neighbourhoods fit your original idea of Windle! :D The road replacement makes a big difference too, at least it looks a lot less modern. It would be awesome to have rut tracks, though. Your little village looks so adorable! I'm astonished by the amount of work you've done in so little time. The little cottages are adorable and the church sets it off beautifully!

Yes I KNOW, Riverview is as close to Windle I could have dreamed about, I was really happy when I first loaded it. If we also could add lots.. and as I already whined about, get rid of the modern deco (did you notice the old car wreck in the water..) it would be even better.
