To customize the careers - How-To

Categories: About Sims3, Custom Content
To make the career replacements I used the very user-friendly tool Stubble, found here:
With the help of this tool, you can change almost any text string in game. It has a search function, so you can search for example for "Science" and find all text strings with it. It does take some time to do this, as the careers for example is not only just the titles, but also a lot of other stuff, and I am still tweaking my career replacement file and will update it eventually.
I had good help from the files that Twallan created for his Career Mod. As I wanted his additional careers also, I used it as a base. I haven't attempted to make all new careers yet, just the replacements. Mainly because I needed to have them more, and also to see what is missing now when the basic ones are replaced. However, Twallan also made a tutorial how to do this, it's found here:
That is next step, but I think I will wait and try until after the hurricane, AKA the first expansion World Adventures, hits my game.

Thanks! I should have looked more in twallan's place. Do you know where the "education" career that is so often mentioned is? I don't see it posted there or MTS.

Lion, I also saw some references to it, but I really didn't see a download. My sims don't have any schools yet, but when I check Twallans files I see no reference in them to it.

Twallan's career set includes an unemployment at the city hall that your sim can "join" and then choose different title on the computer. But I can't find a way to change title after registering as unemployed, with his super computer installed. Can you do that on the computer? If you can, which option? I'm following his custom career tutorial and trying to make a custom "farmer" career. Then I found that one of the titles is "professional farmer". But I'll still try to work it out to see if it works.

I found the option to change titles. I have to put the computer on a table to be usable to do that. I used to only put it under the basement. And my "farmer" career did not show up in game. :(

What rabbithole did you attach it to? You need to have one of the right kind placed in the hood, to have it show up. I am also sure you can ask Twallan for help, he seems like a very helpful person. - I usually put the comps in the attic, but I have some placed, then laptops, disguised in leather as books.

It's attached to city hall. I basically copied the unemployment without additional levels. I did it quickly and hoped it would work. But it doesn't. Oh wells. This is not a very viable method anyway since you have to add it to one of his base files to work/share. I'm hoping custom careers will soon show up on MTS, or from you. :)

I must say I'm loving what your doing with TS3 so far, Ingeli. In case you aren't obsessed (as I am) and are following Sims news, a new tool was revealed at the World Adventures event. It's called the Create-A-World Tool and lets you customize a neighborhood. Place roads, add lava, the whole shabang.

I saw some news about it, and of course its GREAT news. I also liked the review on WA from Evanell sims, stating that Sim France is from "late medieval times". Must mean something good.
