Colonization 212 - A New World - updated 2010-01-03

Categories: Colonization 212, Downloads
Tired of the green pastures of Sunset Valley and Riverview? Have an urge to see other planets? Come visit Colonization 212, located on a planet far away in the Simverse..
Colonization 212
Administrative Dome. Next to it there is a bigger Residential Bunker for the Leader of the Colonization.

This simworld has a blue surface, quiet strange to sim earth inhabitants. The texture is somewhat beehivish.. maybe the planet was inhabited by some bee like creatures, once upon a time? Who knows. There is water on the planet, water with a tealish color, and also tealish mud.
To play this world you will need some custom content, first and foremost MelissaMels custom rabbitholes, download them at MTS2:
You will probably also need to have EA:s Riverview world installed because I used some items from there.
And at least this store set:
If you dont have that one, I guess the couches used in many lots won't show up - of course you can go in and replace them with other couches instead.
I have replaced the old Bunker type 1 with one that has no custom content. I will post the new housetypes from this updates in a new post, if you just want to replace the houses in your world.

Facts about the world:
Size: largest.
Type: Flat with surrounding mountains
Roads: No. Cars are not allowed due to ecological reasons. Maybe one day, if sim science invents new suitable vehicles.
Facilities: all that are available in game, for work and service. (if you have MelissaMels custom rabbitholes, that is.)
Lots with residential houses placed: 90
Empty lots: appr 20 more, in attractive locations and with high property value, to build on for your sims when they get rich.
NOTE: all residency lots are covered by glass domes, which are a hood deco and can't be removed by the player. To make the Area inside the glass domes accessible, a special lot, called The Under-Walk is placed. Better not delete these if you want your sims to be able to use the houses inside the glass domes. It doesnt look like they use the Under-Walk, but they do. If it isn't there, they cant get in or out.

No lots (well with one exception) are bigger than 32x32 squares. There is no foliage at all besides on some of the lots, which reduces lag. If your computer can't handle a hood with hundreds of sims, I recommend deleting some of the houses to decrease immigration, the world is playable also with fewer houses.
Residential Dome
Residential Dome with three units.

I have left a couple of peripherical community lots empty. They can be used for future new possibilities. I have one project that I am planning for a near future, and that is a space themed tomb, which I will make available for download here when it is finished.

If and when we will be able to create worlds to use as adventure worlds, I will remake such a version of Colonization 212.

Map:
Colonization 212
A = Administration Dome with City Hall and Business Center. Also, a popular Roof Bar & Restaurant with dancing. Pleasure Dome with a sport stadium and theatre.
B = Space Airport
C = Military Dome (Base, Gym)
D = Health Dome (Hospital, Spa) and Education Dome (School, Library)
E = Science Dome with under-ground agricultural center, and a special Nectary facility which has a very popular wine bar.
The Art & Science Museum, where your sims can donate their findings of artefacts and precious stones.
Note: I haven't added any cc paintings. All the game paintings are here, but there is plenty of room to hang all your favorite sim cc paintings here.
F = Three fishing domes and two zoological domes contains all the spawners of beetles, butterflies and fish in game. In the local lake sims can catch death fish and robot fish, which are local creatures of the planet.
Besides these spawners there are also plenty of meteorite spawners on the planet surface. A big mine also contains virtually all gems available in sim existence.

G= Residential Domes with lower property value

H = Residential Domes with normal property value

I =  The Dome with a Home for Old Aged sims.

J = A bunker for the local criminals, located near the peripheral radio tower.

K, L = Empty lots with very high property value. You can build your own houses in these domes, or use mine, and add more luxury stuff to them for your richer sims.

Please let me know any problems for example with stuck sims, I have playtested but more testing is always good :D.

Updated 2010-01-03:
Lake now has water and you CAN fish in it.
Better routing - sims will normally go to work (if not absent minded, then you never know..)
Houses improved, less custom content, and the home-greenhouse can now be planted in.
Better playgrounds and community lots in the Dome Community Center.
Lot values adjusted. No houses should now cost 0 simoleons.
Added a Base Game version with no WA-content.
Also: a special version with no Glass Domes, after a request from a user with an older graphics card.

Thanks for all feedback. No, I wont do any other color options - this world comes in blue :P

Download:

Colonization 211BG for Base Game (patched)

Colonization 212 - version d  (almost no glass domes, lesser deco, fewer lots as the domes don't need the underwalks)

And Happy New Year to everyone!

Very kewl! I might wait for the adventure version. I'm busy with my Riverview medieval/fantasy world I tweaked to fit my favorite lots, of course yours were the first!

Thank you very much for offering this world for download. It is fascinating. Are all of the domes supposed to be visible? I can only see the ones over the lots that have swimming pools in them, plus the one marked "L" on your map. The bunkers look comfortable. And, I was pleasantly surprised at how fast the world installs, loads, and plays. Excellent work.

I should have mentioned in my earlier comment that I never bothered reinstalling Riverview after the patch ate it. If that's the likely cause of some of the domes not showing up, please disregard my inquiry. The lots with no visible domes are functional for me, so it's not a huge issue.

Game configurations and the graphic card can limit how much of the hood deco that is visible from a certain point of view. The Domes normally become visible when you load a lot, or go near it. Unfortunately it's hard to get them all visible at the same time, in such a big world. I don't think Riverview has anything to do with it.

Thank you for your quick reply. Even without all the domes, the world still looks fantastic. I just finished exploring the amenities in the Administration Dome, where my Sim is working for the colonial government. ;-) Love the idea of putting eateries and entertainment areas "in" the businesses! It will be fun to check out more of the domes and see what other little surprises are tucked away.

Ingeli, this is an amazing world. I am going to have to download and play. I miss Strangetown so this gives me a great alternative. Thank you for all the work you put into this and for sharing it.

I'm liking the world very much but I've run into some problems that I haven't been able to fix. It seems that somehow colonization 212 is overriding the landscape of other worlds. Pleasant View is definitely affected as is another custom world I downloaded. I've had to uninstall it but this is still the case.

On 16 Jan 2010 04:02, Ingeli said:

That is a very odd problem, that I haven't heard of before. I know I read somewhere about people having problems with the WA-worlds overwriting other worlds, but where I can't remember now.. Anyway, to uninstall, use launcher and then cleanse corresponding files from /worldcaches, /installedworlds and also delete the cache-files in TheSims3 directory (all these are in My Documents/EA/Sims3).

So I'm not alone, didn't spot anything about it over on MATY but I might've missed it if it's not that common. I've removed it from all of those already, but I'll try the cache files again. Who knows, maybe the 'voodoo' will work this time *chuckle* Want a screenshot before I try? Pleasant View and Riverview look quite strange with the alteration. Oh, before I forget; it affects existing game saves also. One of my thoughts was that the [stupid broken] launcher had messed up something and actually overwritten Pleasant view but the world file for it hasn't changed.

Ok, finally managed to get it fixed. The stupid broken launcher managed to get some stuff mixed up in the normal packages and I finally tracked it down.

I'm amazed! I'm having a big fun playing this new world, also because - unlike many custom worlds around - it's playable "out of the box", without placing residential or community lots. The only thing I don't understand is about the glass domes: you say they are supposed to block the sims' path, but my sims just walk through the glass, and never use the under-walks. Not a big problem, anyway: the routes arealready very long to walk, and if my sims can cut off through the glass, I'm not going to complain about it, lol! Thanks a million for your wonderful creation!

On 18 Jan 2010 06:22, Ingeli said:

Thank you! The Glass Domes WOULD block the sims if I hadn't placed the Walk-Under lots, but it's actually not the tunnel itself, but the lot crossing the glass that creates the route for the sims. Thats why the go through the glass. I know it is not so realistic, but I was more concerned with accessibility for the sims, so they wouldn't be trapped inside or outside the domes.

Very nice, however, the walking thing is a bit annoying. Suggestion: Add Teleporters at each "hub." There is a mod that allows you to place them at MTS.
